Band’s tour bus hit by bin lorry in Colchester

The tour bus belonging to a gothic metal band from Milan was badly damaged after a bin lorry reportedly smashed into the vehicle early on Sunday morning.

Lacuna Coil are currently touring the UK on their bus, but luckily were not inside the coach when the collision occurred. It’s understood that the tour bus was parked up, with just the coach driver asleep inside.

Heavy metal band, Lacuna Coil, played a sell out gig at the Colchester Art Centre on Sunday night, with another gig scheduled for Wednesday night in Oxford. Luckily the Oxford gig is the last night of the Italian band’s 18-date UK tour which started at the beginning of November.

The band became aware of the incident when they walked to their tour bus from their nearby hotel in Colchester and saw that the windscreen had been completely smashed and the frame had crumbled as a result. The band had not been staying in the tour bus overnight as the vehicle was due to be cleaned.

The police confirmed that they had received a phone call from the driver of the tour bus at approximately 7am on Sunday morning to report the incident, however the authorities said they wouldn’t be taking the matter further.

It’s believed that a refuse lorry was responsible for crashing into the band’s tour bus, thought to belong to the council, although this information has not been confirmed.

Justin Bieber takes double-decker bus ride in London

Teen pop idol, Justin Bieber, is the latest in a line of celebrity faces ditching the chauffeur driven car and giving London’s famous buses a try after he was spotted catching a lift from his hotel to the ITV studios on a big red double-decker over the weekend.

Only a few weeks ago R&B singer Rihanna was spotted catching the London tube to her concert at the O2 Arena, while Made in Chelsea star and daughter of Sir Phillip Green the Topshop the tycoon, Chloe Green, was snapped catching the night bus home with a friend.

Now Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber is the latest celebrity to endorse public transport, although his bus trip may not have been 100% authentic as there seemed to be a whole camera crew in tow, and also a few minders to keep over-eager fans at bay.

The 17-year-old star is currently over in the UK to promote his Christmas album release, Under the Mistletoe, and is reported to be starring in his own ITV special to advertise the release of the festive record. In fact, at the time he was spotted on his hired London bus, the singer was being transported from his West London hotel to the ITV studios, possibly to record material for the upcoming show.

The teen pop star evidently enjoyed his ride on the open top London bus as he tweeted a picture of himself looking relaxed and enjoying the view from the top deck with the caption, “London Town.”

Dolly Parton tour of Oz back on after tour bus debacle

Dolly Parton’s management were reportedly on the brink of calling off the country and western singer’s tour of Australia in November because the country’s transport regulations deemed her tour bus too big for roads in Oz.

The 65-year-old singer never goes anywhere without her tour bus, preferring to travel on her own customised bus as opposed to staying in 5 star hotels and flying to the venues where she’s performing.

However Dolly’s usual mode of tour transport came under serious threat when the Australian customs department found out about the size of the huge vehicles, and ruled they were too large for Australian roads and banned them from entering the country. But Dolly’s management team stood firm saying: no bus, no tour, which forced the officials to reconsider their decision.

After two months of wrangling, the transport minister in Australia, Anthony Albanese, stepped in to help smooth things over to allow Dolly Parton’s 46 foot bus entry into the country to allow the tour to go ahead. The politician said it was “common sense” to grant a temporary reprieve and allow the buses into Australia as Dolly Parton touring the country can only be good for the fans and the economy.

In an official statement from Dolly Parton’s people, the Jolene singer is said to be “very pleased” that the Australian leg of her Better Day World Tour can go ahead and has even promised a “huge cuddle” for minister Albanese who was instrumental in making it happen.

This tour bus is on fire! Kings of Leon gig cancelled after fire at the O2

The Kings of Leon were forced to cancel the last date of their UK tour last night after one of their tour buses caught fire at the O2 Arena.

At one point, a team of 60 fire fighters and 12 fire engines battled the blaze which broke out on one of the double-decker tour buses belonging to the band which was parked in the loading bay of the O2 Arena.

The blaze was brought under control by approximately 11:30am, however the band had to make the decision to postpone the gig as there simply wasn’t enough time to prepare the stage in time for that night’s scheduled performance.

6 people were reported to have been treated for smoke inhalation following the tour bus fire, although no one required hospital treatment as a result.

It’s believed the fire fighters succeeded in containing the fire within the loading bay area where it originated and that the O2 Arena and the seating area of the venue were not affected at all by the blaze.

A full investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire, as yet there has been no official word on what may have triggered the inferno on the band’s double-decker tour bus.

Pink’s tour bus catches fire in Germany

Pink was not onboard the tour bus which caught on fire

According to recent reports, a tour bus belonging to US pop stars Pink caught on fire while travelling through Germany last week.

Pink is currently performing at dates across Europe and the UK with her Funhouse Summer Carnival Tour. The bus was en route to Berlin where it was due to play a concert on Tuesday night when the fire broke out. The tour bus was travelling from Munich where Pink had performed on the previous Saturday night.

The police say that the fire was caused by a particle filter in the exhaust system which caught fire due to a technical fault. The authorities were called to the incident at approximately 5am last Monday morning.

The quick thinking actions of the tour bus driver have been praised. As soon as the driver noticed the smoke, he pulled over onto the hard shoulder and managed to extinguish the fire himself. All 8 passengers travelling onboard the tour bus were evacuated immediately. It’s been reported that 8 musicians were being transported on the tour bus at the time and that Pink was not one of the party.

No one was injured as a result of the incident and the concert in Berlin went ahead the following day as planned. The 8 musicians were transported by a replacement bus.

Pink’s tour is currently playing at dates across the UK.

Tour bus luxuries for singer Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift's tour bus has a fireplace and a treadmill onboard

Country singer Taylor Swift has revealed that she’s kitted her tour bus out with a few unusual luxuries to ensure she feels at home while on tour.

The award-winning artist, who’s been touring the US and Australia since the beginning of the year, has had a fireplace and a treadmill installed on her tour bus so she can keep fit, and put her feet up in front of the fire while on the road.

The 20-year-old singer says that she “feels at home” whenever she’s travelling on her tour bus which is exactly the effect she was hoping to create. An extra comfy bed has also been added to the bus at the request of Ms Swift to ensure she can catch a cat-nap here and there during her gruelling tour schedule.

The tour bus is a home from home for the young star while she spends time away from Tennessee where she is based when she isn’t touring. Taylor still has a handful of dates left before her Fearless 210 tour comes to an end at the beginning of July.

For a girl with strict demands on what should be onboard her tour bus, the singer revealed she’s very low maintenance when it comes to the car she drives. Taylor has chosen to keep her millions in the bank instead of splashing out a set of flash wheels as she still drives the same beaten-up banger she had at 16.

Glastonbury encourage festival goers to arrive by coach

Festival-goers encouraged to travel to this year's Glastonbury Festival by coach

Organisers of this year’s Glastonbury Festival are urging their audience to arrive by coach in a bid to help reduce the event’s carbon emissions.

Tickets for the festival are being offered complete with a return or single coach travel ticket from a range of UK destinations in an attempt to encourage more festival-goers to opt for coach travel to the Somerset based event.

U2 and Jack Johnson are already confirmed headliners of this year’s Glastonbury, however a number of other high profile names are rumoured to appear as the festival aims to celebrate its 40th anniversary in style.

The festival organisers have calculated that ticket holder’s travel to the event contributes to two thirds of the festival’s total emissions. According to their research, a coach filled to capacity beats car, campervan and train travel in the carbon footprint stakes.

Tickets for the festival, which is due to take place between Wednesday 23rd June – Sunday 27th June, have sold out. However a ticket re-sale date has just been announced for April 11th which will provide music lovers with a final chance to get their hands on a ticket for Glastonbury 2010.

Combined festival entry and coach travel tickets will also be available on this date. Coaches are due to leave from a variety of cities across the country including Bristol, London, Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, Taunton, and Winchester.
