High Court awards woman with £90,000 in damages after bus crash in Malaysia

A bus crash whilst on holiday in Malaysia left one woman from Coventry with a lasting injury. This week after a High Court hearing, Gail Griffin was awarded £90,000 in damages for the injury she sustained which has left her with severe back and neck pain.

The accountant was enjoying an adventure holiday with her husband at the time of the accident. The couple were travelling on a bus from Tanjung Gemok to Singapore in May 2006 when the vehicle crashed.

The couple were injured in the collision along with another 11 tourists also onboard the bus, however Mrs Griffin has suffered considerable lasting damage as a result of the incident.

The 46-year-old appeared at the High Court in London this week to describe the affect the accident has had on her health. Mrs Griffin explained how she suffered from chronic pain in her back which spread to her legs. She described how she’s often woken in the middle of the night by the pain. As a result, everything she tries to do in her everyday life is affected by the injury.

Medical experts were also called in to give their opinion on Mrs Griffin’s condition. They confirmed that the extent of the pain experienced by 46-year-old meant she was now only able to undertake part time work.

The court took into account Mrs Griffin’s future loss of earnings as a result of the injury and she was awarded £90,000 in compensation.
