Footage of the double-decker bus rampage in Salisbury is posted on the internet

Further to our article of last week entitled “Three people arrested following Salisbury double-decker bus crash” it has been revealed that footage from the incident in which a bus was stolen by three youths and driven recklessly around the town of Salisbury, has been posted on the internet.

The video, which was filmed on a mobile phone, begins minutes after the bus was stolen from the town centre by the trio. A teenage girl is seen behind the wheel of the double-decker bus. Another 16-year-old girl is also present, and a 21-year-old man who is recording the incident on his phone.

The entire episode can been seen in the footage which shows the stolen bus crashing numerous times damaging 4 buses, 3 cars, and smashing into a tree. The 12-mile rampage left a trail of destruction in its wake causing an estimated £30,000 worth of damage.

Since the footage was uploaded onto the video sharing website YouTube, it has received 12,000 hits. At one point during the video the man tells the teenage tearaway driver to go around an upcoming roundabout the wrong way. Later he jokes that they may make it into the newspapers with their reckless stunt.

After crashing into a row of parked cars the 21-year-old yells at the girls to abandon the bus and run away before looking at the camera and saying “Oh dear God” before leaving the bus and leaving himself.

The three were later captured by police and arrested. They have since been released in bail pending further enquiries.

Bus driver loses control and crashes into Dorset beer garden

Driving conditions were described as "slippery" on the night of the crash

It was a narrow escape for drinkers in Poole last Saturday morning after a bus driver lost control and crashed into the beer garden of the George Hotel. The accident happened at approximately 12:30am on Saturday morning, just minutes after the area had been cleared of smokers and drinkers for closing time.

It’s been reported that the bus driver lost control of the vehicle as it took the roundabout opposite the pub. Driving conditions were said to have been slippery on Friday night due to persistent rain. The Wilts and Dorset bus then left the road, crashing straight through the beer garden and into the side of the pub.

No one was injured in the accident as the bus was out of service at the time of the crash so there were no passengers travelling onboard. As the beer garden had just been cleared of customers, there was no one in the area when the bus made impact. The bus driver was treated for shock following the crash.

Staff at the George Hotel described how the whole building shook as the bus hit the side of the pub. One of the barmaids had a lucky escape as she had just returned from the beer garden area moments earlier to put out some rubbish bags.

A full investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the accident.

Minibus speed limit increase discussed on Isle of Man

Isle of Man discusses the possibilty of increasing the speed limit for minibuses by 10mph

Transport officials have opened up a public consultation to discuss the possibility of increasing the speed limit of minibuses and similar vehicles on unrestricted roads in the Isle of Man.

The transport authority is proposing an increase of 10mph for minibuses carrying up to 16 passengers, motor homes, and towing vehicles on unrestricted roads on the island in a bid to improve traffic flow. The public are being asked for their views on the potential change to speed limits, the deadline which comments must be received by is July 30th.

The possibility of removing the speed limit restriction sign displayed on the dashboard and rear of good vehicles, which is currently a mandatory requirement, is also being discussed.

The move to increase the speed limit has come as a reaction to the advancement in technology now in use of vehicles such as minibuses and motor homes which means they are able to travel safely at higher speeds.

The transport officials also believe an increase in the limit would help reduce the number of traffic accidents on unrestricted roads as vehicles won’t be forced to overtake these slower moving vehicles, meaning there is less of a chance of an accident occurring.

At present there are no plans to increase the speed limit for coaches or vehicles carrying over 16 passengers.

Luxury coach set alight by arsonists in South Wales

Luxury coach set alight in what police believe was an arson attack

An executive coach said to be worth in the region of £70,000 was set alight at the beginning of the month in what police believe was an arsonist attack.

The 49-seater luxury coach which had a number of top quality onboard features such as TV screens and a DVD player was owned by a South Wales based coach hire company, C & R Travel of Abertillery. The firm has 10 vehicles within its fleet ranging from 16-seater minibuses, to 53-setaer coaches. C & R Travel also provide school bus transport.

The luxury coach was torched by arsonists on the night of June 4th. The coach had been parked at Abertillery Leisure Centre car park, just a stone’s throw from the home of the travel company’s director. On the day which the coach was set alight, it had been booked to transport a group of wedding guests.

This isn’t the first time the coach hire company has fallen victim to damage from vandals, only 18 months ago several vehicles within C & R Travel’s fleet came under attack from yobs who caused substantial damage to the coaches.

The emergency services were called to the scene of the blaze in the early hours of June 5th. There were no casualties, but police have confirmed that they are treating the incident as arson.

The police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the blaze and are calling for anyone with any information to come forward.

Pink’s tour bus catches fire in Germany

Pink was not onboard the tour bus which caught on fire

According to recent reports, a tour bus belonging to US pop stars Pink caught on fire while travelling through Germany last week.

Pink is currently performing at dates across Europe and the UK with her Funhouse Summer Carnival Tour. The bus was en route to Berlin where it was due to play a concert on Tuesday night when the fire broke out. The tour bus was travelling from Munich where Pink had performed on the previous Saturday night.

The police say that the fire was caused by a particle filter in the exhaust system which caught fire due to a technical fault. The authorities were called to the incident at approximately 5am last Monday morning.

The quick thinking actions of the tour bus driver have been praised. As soon as the driver noticed the smoke, he pulled over onto the hard shoulder and managed to extinguish the fire himself. All 8 passengers travelling onboard the tour bus were evacuated immediately. It’s been reported that 8 musicians were being transported on the tour bus at the time and that Pink was not one of the party.

No one was injured as a result of the incident and the concert in Berlin went ahead the following day as planned. The 8 musicians were transported by a replacement bus.

Pink’s tour is currently playing at dates across the UK.

“Bomb” found on London bus was a false alarm

Leytonstone train station was cordoned off this morning while police investigated a suspect package on a bus

Leytonstone train station was cordoned off this morning after a suspect package was left on a bus outside of station.

All passengers travelling onboard the number 145 bus bound for Dagenham were evacuated from the bus after the package was discovered at approximately 7:30 am this morning.

The emergency services were scrambled immediately. A bomb disposal unit was called, and three fire engines and an ambulance arrived as a precaution and waited on standby in the nearby McDonalds car park.

The bus driver, who wished to remain anonymous, said the police officers examined the suspect package which had been left on the bus and discovered it wasn’t a bomb at all, but instead a shoe box containing a pair of slippers.

The box was described as being tightly wrapped with brown tape and had an address written on it. The bus driver said the police were very quick to act as all potential bomb threats are taken very seriously following the tragedy of the London bombings in 2005.

After the suspect package was found to be an innocent box containing a pair of slippers, the area which had been cordoned off during the investigation was re-opened. Leytonstone train station is now returning to normal following the bomb scare.

The bus driver described the incident as a “waste of police time” but added, “It’s something that has to be done.”

Oxford Transport Company ends public bus service after 80 years

Worth’s Coaches based in Enstone, Oxfordshire, have brought the curtain down on two of their regular bus services after 80 years.

The number 69 and the 81 bus services from Chipping Norton to Witney and Banbury have been cancelled after dwindling passenger numbers. The services were further hit when the council stopped subsiding the route.

Competition from a rival service, which receives a subsidiary from the council, was another contributory factor in the demise of Worth’s Coaches route. The service was no longer deemed economically viable, and so the decision was made to pull the plug on the number 69 and the 71 buses.

Despite the declining passenger numbers, the bus routes had a strong following of loyal customers with 5,000 passengers a month travelling on the service.

The current director at Worth’s Coaches, Paul Worth, described it as a “sad day” when the company ran its last number 69 and 71 services. Recalling the days when his grandfather started operating the bus services during the 1930’s, Mr Worth said that the route was so popular, that even double-decker buses couldn’t cope with the demand.

The company still has 12 coaches and says they will now be concentrating on private hire business.
