London bus ad campaign planned for Pope’s UK visit

Pope Benedict is due to visit the UK during September

A group of British Christians are planning to get their message across to Pope Benedict during his visit to the UK next month by enlisting the help of a fleet of double-decker London buses.

The advertising campaign which will see 15 London buses plastered with the words “Pope Benedict – Ordain Women Now!” has been organised by the Catholic Women’s Ordination (CWO) who’ve paid £15,000 to have their message displayed on the buses for a full four weeks.

The CWO group also plans to protest outside of Lambeth Palace during a planned meeting between the Pope and Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury. Pope Benedict XVI will be visiting the UK and Scotland for 4 days next month.

The campaign message will be posted on buses travelling through London city centre for maximum exposure in order to raise cause’s profile. The posters started appearing on London buses yesterday (Monday) in time for the Pope’s visit on September 16th- 19th.

Members of the CWO want to open up a discussion on the policy of the Catholic Church to only allow men to become priests. The group maintains that they are currently forbidden from discussing the issue in church halls, and other buildings associated with the Catholic Church.

Three large public gatherings are planned for the Pope’s UK visit, the largest of which is expected to be the evening vigil at Hyde Park where 80,000 people are expected to attend.

If you’re travelling to any of the three planned events in London, Birmingham or Glasgow, Coach Broker are offers top quality coach hire at a low cost rate, see the following link for more details http://www.coachbroker.co.uk/coach-hire-london.htm

One injured after London bus crashes in Piccadilly

The police and TFL are trying to establish the circumstances of the bus crash in Piccadilly

One woman was left with injuries to her arm and leg after a double-decker London bus careered off the road, colliding with railings in Piccadilly earlier this week.

It’s believed the woman, who is in her 50’s, was emerging from the Piccadilly tube exit when the bus struck the railings outside, and the woman was hit by falling masonry from the collision.

An ambulance was sent to treat the woman at the scene of the accident, she has since been admitted to a South London hospital where she is receiving further treatment. Two fire engines also attended the scene.

The police are still trying to establish the cause of the accident. Transport for London (TFL) are also carrying out there own investigation into why the driver didn’t stop at the scene of the crash, but continued a few hundred yards down the road to the Haymarket area before brining the bus to a halt.

The number 9 double-decker bus was seen to hit the railings outside exit 2 at Piccadilly tube station. One eyewitness said the force of the crash meant the railings then fell down into the station. A lamppost at a nearby bus stop was also struck by the bus.

Aside from the woman, no other casualties have been reported as a result of the accident.

The police and TFL are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.

Coach plunges into the River Seine in Paris

The Austrian tour bus plunged into the famous Seine River in Paris

Forget the Eiffel Tower, the crowds were gathered last week in Paris to watch a luxury coach being hauled out of the famous River Seine after the vehicle accidentally fell in.

The Austrian coach had been carrying tourists to the French Capital when the driver parked the vehicle in car park, a stone’s throw from the city’s most famous landmark, the Eiffel Tower.

However it’s believed that the coach driver forgot to put the hand brake on, which resulted in disaster. With no brakes on, the coach began to roll backwards, one eyewitness said he saw the coach mount the curb, and then topple backwards, plunging into the Seine River below.

Luckily all of the passengers travelling onboard the Austrian coach had left the vehicle, no one was hurt in the incident.

A team of expert divers were called in to assess the wreckage and prepare the coach before it was hauled out of the water. Fire crews were also present to assist in pulling the coach back onto land again.

A crowd gathered to watch the spectacle with many people recording the bizarre sight on their phones and video cameras. Footage taken just after the coach fell into the river has been posted on a new site. There were a large number of holidaymakers in the tourist hotspot as the summer holidays are now in full swing.
