East Yorkshire Motor Services wins top industry award
East Yorkshire Motor Services bus company has scooped the top prize as part of the RouteOne Operator Excellence Awards. The firm was named as the winner of the UK’s Large Bus Operator Of The Year Award and was also nominated for a host of other prizes.
East Yorkshire Motor Services beat off competition from over a hundred other operators to win the accolade. To be eligible for the award all companies needed to have a fleet of over a hundred vehicles.
As well as clinching the Large Bus Operator Of The Year Award, the company was also shortlisted for an Operator Training Excellence Award and the firm’s chief engineer was one of three finalists nominated for the Bus Engineer Of The Year Award.
East Yorkshire Motor Services currently employs a large workforce of 800 staff and runs a fleet of 320 buses which operate mainly in the Bridlington, East Riding, Hull, and East Yorkshire area.
The judging panel said East Yorkshire Motor Services stood out immediately from the other finalists, with one of the judges highlighting the firm’s achievements in uncovering new ways in which to encourage the business to evolve. As one member of the judging panel commented, “There can be nothing but respect for a company that maintains its investment levels and constantly evolves as a modern bus operator whilst still maintaining its traditions.”
The chairman of the bus company, Peter Shipp, was delighted with the firm’s achievement and said it was, “gratifying to know that our efforts to provide a consistently high quality bus service have been recognised by other people in the industry.”
