£14,000 worth of damage was caused as a result of the arson attack on the bus depot
A blaze started at a bus depot in Bath on Monday has reportedly destroyed two buses and damaged a further seven minibuses.
The police believe the fire was started by children on Monday afternoon. Due to the ferocity of the fire, it’s thought more than one person was involved in setting the coach depot ablaze.
In total eight fire engines attended the scene of the fire on Monday at the depot which is owned by Bath and North East Somerset Council. A total of £14,000 worth of damage was caused by the fire.
A Mercedes minibus estimated to have been worth £3,500 has been written off, as has a low floor 33-seater Optare bus worth £8,500 which is irreparable. A further £7,000 worth of damage was caused to the seven other vehicles which caught fire in a domino effect as the flames swept through the depot.
Several of the buses which were affected by the incident had been especially adapted to transport elderly and disabled passengers as they offered wheelchair access facilities.
The council say they have enough vehicles to cover services this week, and will have the buses repaired and new ones on the road as soon as possible in order to minimise disruption to passengers who rely on their transport services.
The police are calling for anyone who may have information in regards to the incident to come forward.
