Edinburgh launch new luxury Airlink buses

Lothian buses launch a new fleet of luxury vehicles

After investing £3million in new vehicles, Lothian buses revealed this week the latest fleet of high spec buses are due to hit the road as part of the Airlink service at the end of the month.

The new fleet of top of the range buses offer a whole host great features including free Wi-Fi, mood enhancing LED lighting, electric power points for passengers to plug in lap tops of phones, CCTV cameras, plus the upholstery is made from a recycled leather by-product called E-Leather which feels just like the real thing.

Lothian Buses say the introduction of the new £200,000 double-decker buses will make their fleet the best in Scotland. The company is also planning to add screens at bus stops displaying bus timetables and also tourist information such as a list of hotels and attractions in the area.

The bus firm decided to push ahead with the hefty investment in new vehicles back in 2008 when it put an order in to coach builder, Wrightbus, for 75 vehicles. The 14 Airlink buses which are due to come into operation in the coming weeks are the most luxurious vehicles from that order.

The introduction of the new fleet comes just after the new was released by Edinburgh airport that they have beaten their target of getting 26% of its passengers to use public transport. Figures revealed recently showed that in fact, 28.7% of its passengers had travelled to the airport by public transport.
